Shreya Ghoshal, a girl from Bengali community was born and brought up in Rawatbhata, near Kota, Rajasthan. Her father worked in Bhabha Atomic research Centre on the post of engineer and her mother is a literature post graduate. She started singing at the age of four and got singing inspiration from her mother who was also a classical singer.
Her parents recognized the singing aptitude in their daughter and decided to provide her proper classical training. Even after facing all the hurdles, she completed her training form her teacher Mahesh Chandra Sharma. Shreya then went for the auditions in the famous reality show of that time Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and got selected. Her parents wanted her to get established in this industry so they sent her for further training in Mumbai to the classical trainer Mukta Bhide.
The great director Sanjay Leela Bhansali watched an episode of that show and decided to give a break to such a talented voice that can suit to the requirement of a particular character of ‘Paro’ in his movie. The songs sung by her accumulate tremendous success and topped the chartbusters and over the night she was in the race of leading female playback singers. She sung all genre songs be it sensual or a hip hop number. She has got a universal voice that can take any shape depending on the demand of the song. The hits list includes ‘Jadu hai nasha hai’(Jism), ‘Pal Pal’ (Lage raho Munna bhai), ‘Hum dil de chuke sanam’ title track, ‘Kosa Hai’ (guru) and many more. Shreya Ghoshal is the only female playback singer who has set a record of getting eight awards in a year that includes a National award also.
She had also sung in several other languages like Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu along with singing for daily soap like ‘Kasturi’.
Shreya is not married yet and pursuing her singing career along with her studies which is quite commendable. She has completed her graduation and is now planning to pursue her post graduation. Shreya Ghoshal has recorded a number of hits in just the initial stages of her career and it is hoped that her immense talent is gong to take far in the race of success.
