In the initial stages of his career, he joined a Bangla band, Chandrabindoo and released a cassette at that time. He was given his first break to compose music in the year 1993 by Hungarian. Pritam also took classes to learn African music from musicologist Kedar Avati.
Later on he made a move to Mumbai to find big opportunities so that he can make a career in Bollywood. During his struggle he met a number of people and became friendly to them.
The turning point in his career came when he was approached to compose music for ‘Tere Liye’ with Jeet. The biggest opportunity Pritam that made a great hike in his career was given by Yash Raj banner. Jeet and Pritam were proposed to compose music for ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’ and fortunately all the songs did very well on the play lists. From that onwards he started composing solo music for the albums.
The real journey of Pritam began and his career touched the peaks of success with the consecutive hit movie albums he composed in a row. Pritam gave his compositions for the movies Chocolate, Gangster, Dhoom2, Garam Masala and Life in a Metro. Pritam formed a band named Metro.
The sad side of Pritam’s career is that he is often blamed of bootlegging compositions of other composers without asking for permission. He never says that his compositions are original but smartly overcomes the accusations by saying that every body fashions copying in today’s age but nobody accepts that. He further add to his comment by saying that he designs music rather than composing it so it’s all about presenting the music in the right shape rather than composing it formerly.
