Kunal Ganjawala was born in Mumbai and did his schooling from St. Peters in Mazgaon. He completed his graduation from Elphinstone College. His parents wanted him to pursue a career in Chartered accountancy, but when he expressed his strong desire to be a singer they supported him whole heartedly.
Kunal Ganjawala says, that he was not a born singer, in fact he never thought of singing ever. Incidentally, he was caught by his fellow students while he was whistling a song’s tone and they forced him to sing a song for them. He told them that he had never sung before but they forced him by saying that if he can whistle so well then why can’t he sing. Kunal Ganjawala sung ‘Ek din Bik Jaega’ and ‘Nazar ke samne’ for them hesitatingly. From then onwards he started taking part in his college festivals. Gradually he developed a liking and passion for music and decided to make his career in playback singing. Kunal also participated in singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. In 1992 while he was performing in his college fest he was noticed by the judge Poornima, who encouraged and helped him to try his luck in the bollywood industry.
Initially, Kunal Ganjawala sung for many Kannada movies and became very popular playback voice there. In 2005 Kunal was approached by Mahesh Bhatt to sing for his movie ‘Murder’. He voiced for the song ‘Bheege Hont Tere’ which was a super hit and made him a star singer over night. He was honored by Zee Cine award of best play back singer for the same.
Kunal Ganjawala then sung many hit tracks for the movies ‘Lucky’, ‘Saawariya’, ‘Krishh’, ‘Salaam Namaste’ ‘ Partner’ and ‘Kaal’. In the year 2007, he participated in a concert named ‘The Incredibles’ held in North America with many other leading singers like Kailash Kher, Asha Bhosle and Sonu Nigam.
In the year 2005, Kunal Ganjawala married Gayatri Iyer, who is also a gifted singer and had lent her voice to many bollywood tracks. Kunal also judged at the singing reality show ‘Amul Star Voice of India-Chhote Ustaad’ on Star Plus, sharing his chair with Shreya Ghoshal and Pritam. Kunal Ganjawala had also sung for many Telugu and Kannada films that had made him a popular singer in Kannada and Telugu film industry.
