Bhupinder Singh was born in a musical family, where his father was a trained singer and guitar player. He received his early music training from his father whom he also considers his first Guru. He started performing at the famous All India Radio in the initial years of his career. He was very fond of learning musical gadgets and learnt to play guitar and violin. Bhupinder Singh has also worked at the Doordarshan center, Delhi. At that time he was heard by the great music director Madan Mohan who offered him to come to Bombay and voiced the legendary singer Mohammad Rafi and for the track ‘Hoke majbur Mujhse usne bulaya hoga’. The song was a hit but the cream was taken by Mohammad rafi and Bhupinder Singh was left unnoticed. After this he was given the opportunity to sing for some low budget movies which also didn’t help him much to make his recognition as a talented playback voice. Bhupinder Singh became a part of R.D Burman’s orchestra and excelled as a guitarist. Then after he played guitar for many popular and hit numbers such as ‘Dum Maro Dum’, ‘Chura liya hai tumne’, ‘Chalte chalte’, ‘Mehbooba O mehbooba’ and ‘Tum jo mil gaye ho’. He became friendly with R.D Burman, who later gave him a chance to sing int the movie ‘Parichay’. He sang two songs for the movies ‘Mitwa Bole Meethe Bani’ and ‘Beeti na Bitai raina’. Bhupinder Singh invited fame his way after he voiced for the two famous tracks ‘Ek akela is shaher mein’ , ‘Dil dhoondta hoga’ and ‘Naam gum jaega’. He then came up with few of his private albums for which Javed Akhtar gave his lyrics. Bhupinder Singh married a Bangladeshi singer named Mitali and gave up his playback singing career. He along with his wife gave some commendable live performances in a number of concerts.
