Kumar Sanu was born in a family that had strong musical background with his father being a great classical singer and composer. At a very young age his father discovered germs of a playback singer in him and gave him lessons of classical music. Kumar Sanu after completing his studies started performing in small concerts, restaurants and shows within his home town. He was a great follower of Kishore Da’s style of singing and was having an immense and strong will power that made him achieve his dream. Kumar Sanu, like many other singers had to struggle a lot but then later his singing potential was discovered by Jagjit Singh, who approached him to sing for a movie ‘Aandhiyan’. Kumar Sanu made his first visit to Bombay when he got an opportunity to sing in ‘Jadugar’ and was lucky to work with the two legendary music directors Kalyan Ji and Anand Ji. After that he was all set to enter the Indian music Industry as a playback singer. He was suggested to change his name so that he can approach the masses with a common name. The change in his name made him a nationally renowned voice and he was accepted by the masses. One of the finest works he did was for the movie album ‘Aashique’ in 1990. This album was the biggest hit of that year and is still ruling the hearts of millions. He won the film fare of best male playback singer award for the same. But it was just the beginning and his further performances were an absolute match to what people expected of him. Kumar Sanu has lend his legendary voice for the movies such as Baazigar, Deewana, Saajan, and 1942: A Love story. Kumar had to unfortunately leave his singing career in between because he was suffering from throat cancer. He had to go through a medical treatment and is able to sing only few songs. His fan following faced a lot of disappointment but Kumar Sanu is still making his appearances in public shows and concerts. He has also started acting and has been a part of many Bengali movies and daily soaps. Kumar Sanu denied accepting any award so that he can create scope for the new talent to penetrate. At present, he is busy in production of a movie named ‘Utthan’.
