Kavita Krishnamurthy was born in Delhi in an educated and artistic family. Her father used to work for education and cultural affairs bureau and her mother was not a trained but was a good classical singer and dancer. She always wanted Kavita to learn and excel in music and dance. She made her join Classical music academy to opt music as her career option. Kavita developed a passion for music and took lessons of Bengali style Rabindra sangeet.
Kavita was fortunate to have her first recording with the amazing female play back singer known as the ‘Nightingale of bollywood’ ‘Lata Mangeshkar’ in the year 1971. She went to Mumbai to attend college and studied economics. In the meanwhile she was also struggling to get a break in the bollywood music industry. To her good luck, she met Rani Mukherjee at college, famous bollywood actor and daughter of Hemant Mukherjee, a great music composer. Rani introduced Krishnamurthy to her father who offered her to lend her voice to some ad jingles. It is said that talent is not always supported by luck but this was not the case with Kavita. Kavita got the opportunity to meet Hema Malini, who introduced her to the leading composer Laxmikant Pyarelal who gave a strong kick to her career. Laxmikant offered her to dub her voice as a playback vocalist. Kavita recorded her first hit in the year 1985 which was ‘Tumse milkar’ from the movie (Pyaar jhukta nahi). With the tremendous success of this number, her career graph grew enormously. Kavita Krishnamurthy got many offers to playback to big banner movies. The second turning point in her career came when R.D Burman approached her to playback for ‘1942 A Love story’, which was again a super hit album. In the year 1999, Kavita Krishnamurthy got married to L. Subramaniam, who is violin virtuoso.
After these achievements and huge success every leading music director and composer wished to work with the melodious Kavita Krishnamurthy. She is an ultimate singing diva who has many hits recorded in her collection some of them are ‘Pyaar hua chupke se’, ‘Mera piya ghar’, ‘Aaj main Upar’ ‘Rimjhimm rumjhumm’ and ‘Tu cheez badi hai mast mast’. She had received many film fares for her dedicated spirit and work to the industry.
