Hans Raj Hans was born in a small village, Shafipur near Jalandhar. His family background was all involved in agriculture and farming and had nothing to do with music. Hans Raj Hans was having incalculable singing potential from his childhood days. He was highly fascinated with a street singer, Sitara Singh, who used to sing many Punjabi folk and devotional songs for him. He got highly fascinated by his singing and developed a keen interest and passion for music.
Hans Raj Hans decided to be a disciple of Ustad Puran Shah Koti sahib at a very tender age. He learnt all the basic and technical notes of Sufi singing from his guru. Since Hans had a fair complexion and a striking personality his guru ‘Ustad’ named him ‘Hans’ which was not his original name. Hans Raj won many musical awards during his school and college time. He completed his graduation from Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar. Hans Raj was declared the representative singer of his state and also received Punjab State Singer award which was another great achievement for him.
Further he won Padma Shri Award for Arts, which is the fourth highest civilian award. His singing style is all Sufi that touches the listener’s chord and leaves them speechless while praising him. He is also famous for his exclusive wearing and outlook and is a trend setter. He has curly golden hair that not only makes him look different but it also represents him as a Sufi singer.
Hans Raj Hans sung ‘Ni Vanjaran Kuriye’ which was a super hit number and brought him in the limelight. This track showcased his hidden potential to be a remarkable singer. After its tremendous success he never looked back. He kept on doing good work and recorded many noteworthy successes in his collection. Hans Raj Hans has also performed in many Bollywood movies and had participated in many stage shows.
Hans Raj Hans is extremely spiritual and a down to earth personality. To thank almighty for whatever he has achieved in life, he had sung in many devotional and religious albums that helped his career graph to grow at a fast pace.
