Gurdas Maan was born in Jat Sikh family in Faridkot. He completed his schooling from ‘Malout’ and was sent to Patiala to pursue his further studies. Since, Gurdas had a keen interest in sports; he took admission in National institute of sports and also opted to pursue his master’s degree in the subject ‘Physical Education’.
Gurdas Maan took part in many youth festivals and won many awards in singing and dancing. He was having a firm support of his friends who encouraged him to participate in different events. He was a black belt judo champion and had won various medals in other activities as well.
Gurdas Maan entered the music industry with a super hit song ‘Dil Da Maamla Hai’ that brought him not only national but also international fame. For the first time, this song was aired on 31st December, which popularised him in the nation. HMV got a notice of his hidden talent and expressed their desire to help him in his debut. Gurdas always preferred to perform as a solo artist and rejected many offers that came his way to start his singing career by perform in duet. At the initial stages of his career he also wrote and directed many programs on small screen. Some of them were POP time on Doordarshan.
Gurdas Maan was fortunate enough to get fame at the international level and had been awarded with the title of Best International artist for the song ‘Apna Punjab’. He is recognised as one of the renowned Punjabi singers all across the country.
Gurdas Maan also tried his luck in acting and proved himself not only a good artist but an all rounder. His movies received high admiration at both national and international level. He acted in the movies titled as ‘Shaheed Udham Singh’, ‘Des Hoya Pardes’, Ucha dar babe nanak da’, ‘Kachehri’ and ‘Zindagi Khoobsurat hai’. Recently he appeared in the movie ‘Yaariyan’.
Gurdas Maan had met severe accidents twice. In the first one his driver died unfortunately, but Maan escaped. The second accident also was fierce but with God’s blessing he again escaped after getting minor injuries. Gurdas Maan is married happily and has a son named ‘Gurik.’ His son has completed his schooling and is equally brilliant as his father.
