Abhijeet Bhatacharya belongs to a Bengali family. He was pepped and brought up in all the riches of life and his family back ground was all musical. But his parents never dreamt of making him a singer indeed they wanted him to go for a course in Chartered Accountancy. When Abhijeet Bhatacharya came to Mumbai in the year 1981 to pursue a career in C.A he discovered his strong will to make a career in singing. For this, he went against his parent’s choice and started his struggle. Unlike Abhijeet’s past pampered and easy life with his family, he had to face some real hard and struggling phases in Mumbai. He had to live in small and untidy locations due to financial constraints but he never lost hope. In the meanwhile he made many visits to his hometown but a magnetism of ‘Mayanagri’ (Mumbai) always drew him back. At last when Abhijeet Bhatacharya decided to give up his dream and was moving back to Kanpur, he received a call from the leading music director R.D Burman to make a Debut as a playback singer for his movie ‘Anand Aur Anand’. Abhijeet Bhatacharya got the biggest break of his life when he started singing the cover versions of Kishore kumar. From 1990 onwards Abhijeet Bhatacharya was recognized as an established singer and was counted amongst the leading singers after he recorded several hits like ‘'Ole Ole' in Yeh Dillagi, 'Shaher Ki ladki' (Rakshak), Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge, 'Zara sa Jhoom loo main', 'Tan tana tan tan tara' (Judwaa), 'Teri ankhen jhuki jhuki' (Fareb), 'Jhanjhriya' (Krishna). Abhijeet was honored with the Screen Award and Film fare award for his song 'Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaoon' from the movie Yes Boss.
